How It Works

Request an appointment by filling out the online form, or email or phone us.

After we receive your request for an appointment, we will send you an information pack that must be completed before you are offered an appointment. Please include:

1. A referral from your GP
2. Primary and secondary school reports, if available
3. Psychological testing reports, if available
4. A letter from someone who knew you in childhood outlining learning, social and behavioural matters

Once you email all of the above information then you will be offered an appointment.

Obtain a specific referral from your GP. It must:

• Be addressed to Dr James Lees
• Specify that your appointment is for a 291 assessment and management plan
• Indicate a willingness by your GP to prescribe S8 medicines, if required

Your appointment is to be conducted face-to-face in person in the consulting rooms.

• The appointment is intended to be sixty minutes in duration, but it would be wise to allow for more time, as the complexity to be dealt with can’t easily be anticipated
• A support person can be very helpful and is welcome to attend with you

At the end of the assessment, you will receive verbal feedback about the diagnosis and treatment plan.

A detailed management plan will be sent to you and your GP with clear guidelines regarding treatment. Your GP will provide you with ongoing support, with the opportunity for psychiatric reviews after 6 months.

• The Assessment is a comprehensive psychiatric assessment incorporating an evaluation for ADHD as well as other conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety, trauma and personality disorders
• Multiple conditions can present with symptoms similar to or together with ADHD
• Your GP will provide management of the treatment recommended in the report. If this includes the prescription of S8 medications, such as psychostimulants for the treatment of ADHD, then the report will include an endorsement that your GP be granted a permit to prescribe them
• Treatment recommendations made will be relevant to the diagnoses and may include continued care from other mental health care providers
• It is important to make an appointment with your GP soon after the assessment so that treatment can begin with the least possible delay
• Follow-up appointments to review the management plan can be provided on request from you and/or your GP
